Where did the time go?

Have you ever had a day that was full of promise and opportunity when it began, only to fly by, full of busy work amounting to nothing.  I'm not sure where today went, but I don't have much to show for it.  I definitely need to get better at using these quiet days more effectively.  There are so many possible distractions from productive activity, it's easy to lose focus.  I wanted to work out but never got around to it.  I wanted to do some reading, but played video games instead.  I wanted to walk around to the Maintenance work shops, but got distracted with helping someone with some Excel problems (that I couldn't solve).  I wanted to take pictures up on the flight deck, but my camera battery needed charging and I never went back to my room to grab it later in the day.  Overall, a disappointing day with no one to blame but myself.  This will be a topic of prayer for me, that the Lord will help me be diligent and efficient with my time.  I want to enjoy my off time in the knowledge that the work to be done is complete, not hanging over my head (I know Janell hears me loud and clear on that one!)

I attended a safety brief for the M-16A2 assault rifle this afternoon, as we will be doing some shooting on the flight deck tomorrow.  Should be interesting with the crosswind that will blow down from the bow.  I didn't shoot the 9mm pistol last week, but I'm going to join in for this one.

After dinner, Chaplain Callaham wandered into the wardroom as we were sitting around.  We ended up talking for over an hour about various subjects, including his doctoral dissertation on something about the modality of a certain Hebrew verb tense.  I mostly listened to that part.  He shared some Japanese tea with me that was pretty good.  His wife is Chinese, from Hong Kong.

Not much else to report on today.  Tomorrow will be a better day.  At least I'll get to put holes in a paper target--hopefully.

Sounds like the day didn't go bad until you sat down to think about. I really hate those days.

We should be getting some nasty weather tonight (snow/ice/rain). You think about us in your balmy weather shooting tomorrow. Hopefully, the seas will be calm so you won't have the distraction of movement.

Hopefully, tomorrow will be better. Keep your head up.
