I'm not sure whether the problem has been on the ship side or the Blogger side, but the email posting function hasn't been working lately. And when internet access is down, I can't post. Here's what I wrote last night (2/23)...
Not much to write about today. Paperwork, a bike ride on the Lido deck, not much else. Unfortunately, we received word today that one of the 2nd class petty officers in Maintenance lost his grandfather this morning. We knew that the grandfather had been ill, but the loss hit him pretty hard. His granddad had been like a father to him. Fortunately, we'll be able to fly him off the ship tomorrow, heading home via Bahrain soon to be with his family. Bad news like that usually comes in the form of an American Red Cross message which the Chaplains office receives and delivers to the squadron CO. "AMCROSS" messages come in to the ship almost every day, delivering bad news to someone. It's not always a death in the family, but often is news of some dire sort. This petty officer was the second person my squadron has sent home unexpectedly since we left. Hopefully, he can grieve with his family, help them work through the details, and return to us soon.
btw. Thanks, Bill for the acronym explanations. Good to hear from you.

You might be interested to know that during WWII, AMCROSS handled an adoption in our family--taking care of all of the legal paperwork. Grandpa never saw the baby he was adopting until he came home from the European Theatre. The rest is a
l-o-o-o-n-g story, which Nana or I can tell you someday if you've not already heard it.
