A Day of Rest, sort of

Obviously, I took yesterday off from blogging.  I figured that after writing three entries on Wednesday, I earned a rest.  And I needed it.  All that mental energy and physical stamina came at a cost.  The brain must rest at some point.  Yesterday was not a day for rest, unfortunately.  I think the effects of the Go pill were still residual, even after the No-go pill had worn off in the morning.  In fact, I wasn't impressed with the No-Go pill.  It helped me fall asleep when my mind was still firing at full speed at midnight thirty, but only three hours later, I woke up and had trouble falling back asleep.  Then at 0600, I was wide awake, and hypersensitive to noise and motion, which is not a good thing when you’re trying to sleep on the boat.  My alarm was set for 0700 so I laid there for 45 minutes, trying to fall back asleep.  No luck.  The longer I laid there, the more frustrated I got that I was missing out on sleep!  But, it finally dawned on me that I was wide awake and apparently didn’t need any more sleep.  Still, I felt cheated.  I rolled right into a very long watch that went by quickly due the pace of things.  After watch I had time for some dinner before I sat on three PC boards, which pretty much wrapped up the day for me.  My mind was finally starting to slow down, and in the time it took me to write an email to Janell, my brain almost completely spooled down and I was exhausted.  To add to that, web access was down last night (as it is right now), so I just decided to call it quits for the day.

Today I was pretty lethargic.  Very slow to spool up and get anything done.  My brief wasn’t until 1800, and we had a beautiful moonlit flight.  One of our crewmen earned his door gunner qual tonight.  But now, it’s 2340 and I have a thick stack of blue folders staring me in the face.  Obviously I should be working on that paperwork, rather than writing this.  As the guilt slowly builds, I’ll take a sip of my “Tension Tamer” herbal tea that Janell sent me, wrap this up and knock out the paperwork.  Another day done.
