A Day of Duty & A Welcome Break

This will likely be my last post of April. We had Foc'sle Follies yesterday, to mark the end of our second line period. Once again, skits I can't describe here, and awards that mean nothing to the helo guys. Still, it was fun. Today we pulled back into Jebel Ali. Most of the officers are at the hotel tonight. I am still on the ship, serving as the Air Wing Duty Officer. All the final "muster" reports are coming in right now, and I'll be in bed in a few minutes. Just wanted to drop one last word before I head out into town again. I don't have any major plans for my time off, other than to do some shopping for the girls. I may look into having a suit made at a local tailor recommended by one of our other O-4's.

Muster reports are in. Here's me, signing off for the night. I'll be relieved in the morning and free to roam. Good night.

Scott,

How did the mustache contest go? Did you win and get to keep yours? It makes you look more "mature". The kids want to know when the real Uncle Scott is going to reappear. :)

Funny you should ask. A couple months ago, there was a "disagreement" between one of the JO's and the front office on the interpretation of Navy grooming standards. Next thing I knew, I was the only guy with a mustache. JOPA solidarity is pretty strong here. So, I guess there are two ways to look at it. One the one hand, I won. On the other hand, no one cares. Oh well. The 'stach and I have gotten used to each other, so it's still around. No plans currently of shaving it. The biggest problem is that it actually reduces my O2 uptake a little workouts and provides a heat sink right in the middle of my face. Annoying, but I'm regarding that as a source of "resistance". I figure when I shave if off for race season, I'll also shave a few seconds off my times due to the increased O2 uptake, decreased perceived heat index, and increased aero and hyrdrodynamic streamlining. How's that?

How long did it take you to come up with that answer??? I'll be curious to see how many milliseconds that cuts off your time :)

Do you really think any of us are buying your rationale for retaining the fuzzy upper lip? You just like the fact that the moustache makes you look a little older and more like a (hairy) senior officer!

Silly boy! :)
I'm half tempted to ask you to keep it so the girls and I can see you with it in person. Hailey looks at your pictures quite confused when we say "Look at Daddy." *giggle*

I like the 'stache. It looks very "Naval".
