Back in the routine
Here I am, back on the same routine within a couple days. Actually, today didn't work out according to plan. I briefed to have the night Alert 30 this evening. A little while later, another pilot was about to start briefing for a night flight, after coming off the flu from the past several days. Our port visit was not without cost for some. In fact, almost everyone who was staying in my hotel room caught a stomach bug during our last day in port. The five of us made a mess of the two bathrooms in the hotel suite. Way more than enough said. Fortunately, my symptoms were cleared up within about 12 hours. The aforementioned pilot is still recovering, 3 days later (he was on IV bags two days ago)! He decided that he was not up to flying tonight, so I ended up taking his flight for him, and he took the alert, allowing him to get some more rest before the alert were to ever get called to launch, which is unlikely. So, I flew 2 1/2 hours of plane guard in the dark. But now I'm exhausted after having a little bit longer of a day than I was expecting. Looks like I'm up for another night flight tomorrow. I don't have the energy to write more about the port visit tonight. I'll try to wrap that up tomorrow before the memories start to fade. Like I said, there wasn't nearly as much to write about in the last three days as there was in the first two. Which is a good thing.

We'll forgive you for resting instead of writing. We all want you safely alert when you fly at night.
